Copper Codfish

Copper Codfish is a hanging 3D sculpture created by Troy Mitchell in 2024.  From June to to September, 2024 it was on exhibit at Quidi Vidi Village Artisan Studios, at St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.  It is comprised of pure copper which has been embossed and shaped by the artist.  It measures 42 inches long.

The sculpture is on loan for one year to St. John's International Airport Authority.  It is hanging at Gate 3 in the Departures Lounge.

Future - Expressions of Interest

Copper Codfish is being made available for a one-year loan to institutions, municipalities, businesses, and organizations.  Beginning in the fall of 2024, and annually thereafter, an entity will be selected from Expressions of Interest.  The selection will be based on:

  • The proposed display space. 

  • A ceiling height and attachment which allows bottom of sculpture to be at least 8 feet from floor (out of reach).

  • Relevance of having this piece at your space.  What will be the benefits?   

  • Your social media presence and how you plan to promote the sculpture.  

  • How you will ensure for care and safety of the sculpture. 


The sculpture has a 3 feet steel cable with hook attached.  It weighs approximately 20 pounds.  Successful entity will be responsible for pick-up and installation, as well as signage.  Artist may support if in close proximity.
